Manchester Christmas market

So now onto our very cold, but very lovely day out in Manchester.
Will and I made our way to our favourite Manchester haunts for a day of shopping, tea and lots of food! Our first stop was Home Sweet Home, the best cafe in Manchester, one of those little haunts that have the most interesting walls, with everything from bicycles to plant pots and the occasional motivational quote (and boy do I love a good motivational quote), and of course they make the best breakfast and cakes EVER...FACT!
We then pottered around the trendy Northern Quarter, an area of Manchester filled to the brim with vintage and one off goodies. The Northern Quarter is always the place I recommend to anyone planning to visit Manchester, theres just so much to look at, such a quirky and eclectic place.

Lunch time called and we headed over to Oast House, an amazing thatched roofed building in Manchester's Spinningfields, a fairly new addition to the centre of Manchester. At this time of year the Oast house is pretty darn special with their Christmas teepee residing outside. Lit by fairy-lights and an open log fire it is the perfect place to refuel with a mulled cider and of course one of their hanging kebabs; mine halloumi, Will's steak, drizzled with garlic butter on a bed of chips, it really is just scrummy!

million Syrian children on the run

In Syria rages a brutal civil war. Many families have fled the violence in their homeland. Around three million children were forced to leave their home towns or even the country.

For more than two years reigns in Syria civil war. There fight the supporters and opponents of President Bashar Assad against each other. Among the consequences, more and more children suffer. They are fleeing violence in neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. They have to leave their homes and often their families. Meanwhile, half of all refugees are children, experts say. Most of them are younger than eleven years.

UNICEF and the United Nations for Refugees (abbreviated UNHCR) trying to help the boys and girls. In so-called refugee camps they care for the children and vaccinate them against measles, for example. In addition to medical care, there are also lessons. The experts, however, warn that not enough is done. It is necessary more money to feed the refugee children, they say.
About one million Syrian children have so far not taken refuge in other countries. Inside Syria around two million girls and boys are estimated on the run. You are in danger. Therefore ask the charities that people who make war let the children and their families in peace. They should also be allowed to leave the country and get to safety. Those who continue to attack children, should be punished for it, say UNICEF and UNHCR.

Other organizations are committed to the children of Syria, for example, Save the Children. But the politicians have to act worldwide, is required. They should strive to find a solution so that a return to peace in Syria.

Nelson Mandela is dead

Friday 6 2013 December
A message from South Africa has reached the whole world: Nelson Mandela has died. He was one of the most important and popular politicians of our time.
Hardly a politician was so well known and popular as Nelson Mandela. He was the first black president of South Africa. In 1994 he was elected. That was something very special for the people of the country. Because before Nelson Mandela became president, living in South Africa has long been very difficult for people with darker skin color.

Dark-skinned South Africans had for many years the same rights as light-skinned and were suppressed. Nelson Mandela fought for the blacks. But he came to prison. Only after 27 years, he was released. Soon after, the South Africans elected him as their president. He was also honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. The Peace Prize is the most important in the world.

NO BRA DAY

Twitter went braless today as thousands found ways of commemorating No Bra Day, apparently in aid of breast cancer awareness.
Amid the madness, comedian Sarah Millican tweeted: "It's national no bra day but I can't do that to the folk of Middlesbrough. I'm deferring mine.  Will have a Knockers Out Monday instead."
The day isn't without its critics, however, and some have suggested it's merely a ploy.
Either way, be glad that you've got us to filter through all this stuff for you - it's tough out there, guys.
